Luxury forest tents on the edge of Rajaji National Park, near Rishikesh — hosted by Pahadi House

Looking for a Rajaji National Park forest rest house where you can actually wake up to birdsong and the smell of woodsmoke? This is it. Our wilderness retreat sits on four acres of forest in the Manikut valley, right on the periphery of Rajaji Tiger Reserve and about 30 km from Rishikesh. Six hand-built luxury tents, wood-fired Pahadi cooking from an organic kitchen garden, an evening bonfire, and over forty species of birds living in and around the property. All three meals are included. From ₹4,700 per adult per night.
Van Tarang is run as part of the Pahadi House family of stays, so you get the quiet of a true forest retreat with the comfort of proper beds, fine linen and ensuite tents. Far enough from the highway to feel like real jungle, close enough to Rishikesh and Haridwar to do a day trip and be back for the bonfire.

Setting: 4 acres of sal forest with lotus ponds, a forest stream and landscaped bird perches
Wildlife: 40+ bird species on site; elephants, deer and leopard in the reserve nearby

Most of the day looks after itself here — birdwatching with morning chai, a forest walk, an afternoon by the stream, games on the lawn, then the bonfire. The wildlife of Rajaji is on the doorstep, and Rishikesh, Haridwar and the Ganga aarti are an easy day trip when you want them. Jungle safaris and any paid trips are arranged through us — tell us a day ahead and we line it up.
Optional add-ons you can book alongside your tent — jungle safaris into Rajaji, a guided wild hike, off-roading, live music and wellness sessions. Tell us when you book and we line them up. Prices below are over and above the tariff.
Want a pickup from Haridwar, Rishikesh or Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun? Send us your arrival details when you enquire and we set it up. The last stretch is a forest road, so we will guide your driver in.
Search “Rajaji National Park forest rest house” and you mostly find two things: the government FRH bookings inside the reserve, which are basic and hard to get, and a handful of generic hotels in Haridwar. We’re the third option — a privately run forest retreat right on the boundary of the tiger reserve, with the wild setting of an FRH and the comfort of a proper stay. Here is what guests usually want to know before they book.
What makes a good forest rest house near Rajaji is the setting, not the star rating. Ours is four acres of sal forest in the Manikut valley, built low and quiet with stone, mud and driftwood so it sits inside the landscape rather than on top of it. From your tent you hear the forest — birds at dawn, the stream, the odd langur in the canopy. If you’ve been searching for a “forest resort near Rajaji National Park” or a “Rajaji forest rest house” and finding only highway hotels, this is the kind of place those searches are actually after: genuine jungle, with a bed you’ll sleep well in.
Six luxury tents, each about 200 sq ft, with spring mattresses, fine linen, charging points and a private wash area. The tariff is per adult and includes all meals.
There are no dorms and no shared tents — every booking is private. For most “luxury camping near Rajaji” or “Rajaji forest rest house booking” searches, ₹4,700 per adult with all meals is the all-in number; the only extras are safari permits and any trips you add.
Rajaji Tiger Reserve runs along the Shivalik foothills where the Ganga leaves the mountains, and it is one of the best places in north India for elephants, with leopard, sambar, chital, and the occasional tiger moving through. On the property itself we count more than forty species of birds — kingfishers, barbets, woodpeckers, hornbills in season. We arrange jeep safaris into the nearest ranges with registered operators and permits; mornings are best. Bring binoculars and the birdwatching starts before you’ve finished your first chai.
Meals are simple, local and cooked the old way — wood-fired clay and iron vessels, served in copper, with vegetables and herbs from the kitchen garden or the villages nearby. Three meals a day are part of the tariff, plus welcome drinks and bonfire snacks. Tell us about any dietary needs a day ahead and the kitchen will plan around them.
This is a place to do less. Mornings can start with yoga or meditation on the lawn; on request we arrange Ayurveda and sound-healing sessions. Days drift between the hammock, the ponds, lawn games and the forest trails. Evenings end at the bonfire under some of the darkest skies you’ll find this close to Rishikesh — good for stargazing once the fire dies down.
The retreat is in the Manikut valley on the edge of Rajaji, roughly 30 km from Rishikesh, 25 km from Haridwar and about 30 km from Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun. From Delhi it’s a six-hour drive of around 230 km. The last stretch is a forest road, so we’ll guide your driver in or send a vehicle from Haridwar, Rishikesh or the airport if you’d rather be picked up.
