Forest trail through Himalayan pine and oak above Mussoorie

About the day hikes

Guided 3-6 hour day hikes in the forests above Mussoorie and Landour. Deodar, oak and rhododendron trails on the same ridges that British-era surveyors and writers like Ruskin Bond have walked, away from the Mall Road crowds.

Every hike is led by a local guide who grew up here. Groups are small (2-15), pace is gentle. The easy loops suit first-timers and families. On a clear day the longer ridge walks open up to Bandarpunch and the Gangotri range.

There are two ways to book. Slot a hike into a Pahadi House stay and we sort the pick-up from Camp George Everest or wherever you’re with us. Or come up just for the hike if you’re staying elsewhere in Mussoorie or driving up from Dehradun. Tell us the route you want and we’ll set it up.

Frequently asked questions

Are the trails suitable for kids?
Yes. The Landour Loop and Camel’s Back are easy and fun for children from age 8 and up. For families with very young kids we suggest the shorter 2-hour loop.
What do I need to bring?
Comfortable walking shoes, a water bottle, sunscreen, a cap and a light warm layer. Poles, first-aid and snacks are provided by us.
Can we hike in the monsoon?
We pause most routes in July and August because paths get slippery and leeches are active. September onwards the forest is at its greenest and the hiking is good.
Do I need to be very fit?
No. These are walks, not climbs. Our easy routes suit anyone who can walk 5 km on level ground. The moderate ones have some uphill sections, with plenty of breaks.
Can we book without staying at Pahadi House?
Yes. The day hike is bookable as a standalone. WhatsApp +91 9528730156 with your dates, group size and where you are staying in Mussoorie or Dehradun, and we will arrange transfer and the guide.
What does it cost?
WhatsApp +91 9528730156 with your dates, route preference and group size for current rates. We tell you up front whether you are booking as a stay add-on or as a standalone day hike.
