Yoga & meditation on the Pahadi House deck at sunrise

Yoga & Meditation

Gentle Hatha yoga, pranayama and guided meditation on a cedar-wood deck looking across the Doon valley — thin mountain air, zero screens, and the kind of quiet you can’t buy in a city studio.

Breathe in the hills

Yoga in the Himalayas doesn’t need a sales pitch. The thin clean air, the silence, the way the first light hits the deodar trees — your body just knows what to do with it. We offer gentle, accessible sessions for guests who want to unwind, not become bendy instagram stars.

Classes run on our open cedar deck in good weather and in a warm indoor hall when it’s cold or raining. Our teacher, Yogacharya Prakash, has taught in Rishikesh and Mysore for fifteen years and has a particular gift for making complete beginners feel welcome.

Pick from a morning practice (Hatha asana + pranayama + brief meditation), a sunset flow (gentle vinyasa, less strenuous), or a pure meditation sit. Multi-day retreats can be arranged for guests staying three nights or more.

Session types

Three main formats to choose from — or stack them across your stay for a mini-retreat.

01

Morning Hatha

A classical 75-minute session. Gentle warm-ups, sun salutations, 6–8 core asanas held with care, then pranayama and a closing meditation. Best on the deck at sunrise.

02

Sunset Flow

A slower vinyasa practice designed to release the day. Less strenuous, more about breath and opening the chest and hips. A beautiful way to end a hiking day.

60 min · Evening
03

Pure Meditation

A 45-minute guided sit — body scan, breath awareness, short silence. Completely accessible for first-timers. No yoga experience required.

A typical morning session

An example morning Hatha class. Sunset and meditation sessions follow a similar structure, shorter.

5:45 AM

Wake-up & warm tea

Optional hot ginger water or light herbal tea on the deck. No heavy food before practice.

6:15 AM

Centering & breath

Sit in stillness for 5 minutes. Prakash guides you into the breath before any movement.

6:30 AM

Asana practice

Sun salutations, standing poses, a couple of balances, gentle back-bends. Everything is modified for your level — zero pressure.

7:15 AM

Pranayama

Breath-control practice. Anulom-vilom, kapalbhati, a taste of bhramari. Surprisingly powerful at altitude.

7:30 AM

Closing meditation

A guided 10-minute sit, then a gentle shavasana. Most people emerge looking completely different.

7:45 AM

Tea & breakfast

Warming herbal tea and a simple sattvic breakfast — fruit, oats, home-made granola, seasonal honey.

Practice well

A few simple guidelines to get the most from your day.

✓ Good to do

  • Tell your teacher about any injury, pregnancy or surgery
  • Arrive 5 minutes early to settle in
  • Wear comfortable, stretchy clothes
  • Drink water before, not during, the session
  • Respect the silent start — phones off from the doorway

✗ Please avoid

  • Don’t eat a heavy meal within two hours of practice
  • Don’t force any pose that causes sharp pain
  • No strong perfume — others have to breathe too
  • Avoid caffeine right before a breath practice
  • Don’t compare yourself to anyone else in the room

Frequently asked questions

I’ve never done yoga. Is this for me?
Absolutely yes. Our sessions are designed around beginners. Prakash is patient, adjusts every pose to your body, and never pushes you past what feels safe.
Is this a religious experience?
No. Our classes are rooted in classical Hatha yoga but they’re secular and accessible for guests of any background. There’s no chanting required, no rituals to follow.
Can I book a longer retreat?
Yes. For guests staying 3+ nights we can build a mini-retreat combining morning yoga, an afternoon meditation, village walks, and sattvic meals. Ask us and we’ll design it.
What about private one-on-one?
Private sessions are available for an additional fee. Useful if you have a specific injury, want therapeutic work, or are recovering from something. Book in advance.
