Our wilderness retreat sits on four acres of forest in the Manikut valley, right on the periphery of Rajaji Tiger Reserve and about 30 km from Rishikesh. Six hand-built luxury tents, wood-fired Pahadi cooking from an organic kitchen garden, an evening bonfire, and over forty species of birds living in and around the property. All three meals are included. From ₹4,700 per adult per night.

Van Tarang is run as part of the Pahadi House family of stays, so you get the quiet of a true forest retreat with the comfort of proper beds, fine linen and ensuite tents. Good to know

What’s the best time to visit?
October to March is the prime window — cool, dry days, clear skies and the best birdwatching and safari season, since Rajaji’s gates are open through winter. April to June is warm by day and pleasant in the forest at night. The reserve usually closes for the monsoon (mid-June to mid-September); the retreat stays open but is at its quietest and greenest then.
Is this the government forest rest house inside Rajaji?
No, and we are clear about that. The official forest rest houses (FRH) inside Rajaji National Park — at Chilla, Satyanarayan, Kunao and similar — are booked through the Uttarakhand Forest Department. Ours is a privately run luxury tented retreat on the boundary of the reserve, which means you get the same forest setting with proper beds, attached washrooms, hot meals and on-site staff. If you specifically need a government FRH inside the core zone, we can point you to the right department office.
Is it good for families and children?
Very. The tents are roomy enough for a family of four, there’s a safe lawn with games, ponds and birds to spot, and the food is simple home cooking. Children aged 5 to 12 stay at a reduced rate and under-5s are complimentary. It’s a gentle introduction to the forest for first-time campers.
How do I book?
Send your dates from the booking card on this page or WhatsApp us at +91 99973 06041. During the day we usually reply within an hour with availability and a secure payment link. A short advance confirms the tent.
What’s the price, and what does it cover?
The tariff is ₹4,700 per adult per night and includes the tent, all three meals, welcome drinks, the evening bonfire and the games and activities on the property. Children up to 5 stay free, children 6–12 are ₹2,000 per child per night, and children above 12 are charged as adults. The tariff also includes all taxes. Rajaji safari permits, jeep hire and any trips into Rishikesh are extra and arranged on request.
Can you arrange a Rajaji jungle safari?
Yes. We pre-book jeep safaris into the nearest Rajaji ranges through registered operators, including permits and a naturalist where available. Morning slots are best for wildlife. Tell us when you book so we can hold a jeep for your dates — safari availability depends on the forest department’s season and quota.
What’s the power and network situation?
This is a forest property, so expect it to feel like one. There are charging points in every tent and lighting through the evening. Mobile data (Airtel/Jio 4G) usually works; signal can dip in the deep forest, which most guests treat as part of the digital detox.
What should I pack?
Light cottons in summer, warm layers and a jacket from November to February, closed walking shoes for the trails, a torch, insect repellent and binoculars if you have them for the birds. Check-in is 1 pm and check-out is 11 am.
