Kodia Forest Ranges – 5 km

Kodia Forest ranges are the most sought-after destinations in Kanatal village in Uttarakhand. Kodia forest is very famous for forest houses, natural springs and deep forest ranges. Chamba is hilly town and nearest marketplace around Kanatal. It is located at about 15 km from kanatal. The region also presents the beautiful Himalayan ranges. The place also offers the holy view of the Bhagirathi River. Chamba is located at a distance of 17 kilometers away from Kanatal. Chamba is situated at an elevation of 1676 meter above the sea level. The place is surrounded by dense pine forest.

Surkunda Devi Temple – 11 km

The Surkanda peak lying at an altitude of 2,750 m. in the western part of tahsil Tehri, and is famous for the temple of Surkanda Devi. It is about 8 km. from Dhanolti on the motor road running from Mussoorie to Chamba and is connected with Narendra Nagar which is about 61 km. With Tehri it is about 41 km. To reach temple one has to leave the Mussoorie-Chamba road at Kadu Khal and climb a steep ascent of about 1.5 km on foot.

An epic story tells that Sati, the wife of Siva, gave up her life in the yajna started by her father. Siva passed through this place on his way back to Kailash with the dead body of Sati whose head fell at the spot where the temple of Surkhanda Devi stands. It commands a beautiful view of Dehra Dun, Rishikesh, Chandrabadni, Pratapnagar and Chakrata. Himalayan wildflowers and medicinal herbs are grown in abundance here. Some of the beautiful birds of the western Himalayas are casually found here. A local fair is held on the occasion of Ganga Dasahra in Jyaistha when hundreds of pilgrims visit this place.

Dhanaulti – 20Km

There are many nearby places to see in Dhanaulti including Barehipani and Joranda Falls, Dashavatar Temple, Deogarh Fort, Matatila Dam and Jain Temples. Joranda and Barehipani are two unique water showers which attract a large number of people. Dashavatar shrine is devoted to Lord Vishnu; this temple was discovered during Gupta period. Deogarh is the most attractive fort in Dhanaulti area, constructed in 16th century. Apart from these attractions, people can also make a visit to Matatila Dam, a popular picnic spot in the centre of the hills of Dhanaulti. A lot of people are not yet aware of Dhanaulti, but the place is an absolutely attractive and charming destination in the Uttarakhand state. The town is located just 30 kilometers away from Mussoorie, making for a good excursion tour in Uttarakhand. It lies along the Mussoorie-Chamba road, elevated at a height of 2250 meters above the sea level. It is far away from the bustle of the cities and offers calm and perfect peace for those who seek it.

Mussoorie – 70Km

In recent years the town has developed as a preferred destination for education, business, tourism and beauty. The discoverer of Mussoorie also made the place as his residence after being enamored of the natural beauty in the year 1820. The Queen of Hills is situated in the foothill of the Himalaya, at 2000 meters from the sea level. The serenity, wonderful hills, flora and fauna, attractive Doon Valley and Shivalik ranges are some of the major crowd-pullers in Mussoorie, attracting visitors in hundreds and thousands every year. Not only the Indians but travelers from abroad also visit Mussoorie regularly.

Tehri Dam

Tehri Dam is constructed at the place of New Tehri when the Old Tehri submerged. It is about 20 km from Kanatal. This is also an interesting place to visit around Kanatal city. Tehri lake is spread over 40,000 Acres. The Tehri Dam is laid over the confluence and Alaknanda River. While visiting the dam people can also see the interesting and attracting scene of confluence. This also attracts tourists a lot in large numbers. In recent years there is lake festival is being organized in the month of November.

Chakrata is around 98 kilometers away from the capital city Dehradun of Uttarakhand. 125 km from Kanatal. The region is perched at a height of about 7000 ft above the sea level. The site is located between the Yamuna and Toms River. The beautiful area is circled with rhododendron and Oak trees. Chakrata is blessed with the natural beauties and panoramic view. The eastern side of the region is occupied by the magnificent hilly town of Mussoorie. While the west is of Kaleidoscopic Kinnaur. Foreigners are not allowed into the cantonment of military of Chakrata. Chakrata includes many tourist attractions Tiger Fall, Ram Tal Garden, Deoban, Moigad fall and many among others. Tiger fall in the area is considered to be a huge crowd-puller. Whoever visits Chakrata doesn’t miss out a visit to the very popular Tiger Fall.
